In Sturgis, Michigan, this locally recognized home—nicknamed the “Darth Vader Helmet”—was more than just another roofing project. The property had been passed down to the homeowner, and preserving its character was the priority. The existing roof had aged out, and the goal was to protect the structure without losing the bold architectural identity that makes the home stand out in St. Joseph County. We installed an interlocking metal shingle system in a slate profile, finished in a deep charcoal tone to complement the home’s dramatic silhouette. Given the home’s unique shape and visibility from multiple angles, precision layout and water management were critical. The four-side interlocking design helps limit water entry while maintaining the dimensional look of traditional slate—without the weight or ongoing deterioration common to older roofing materials.
