A roof approaching 25 to 30 years of age has typically reached the end of its reliable service life, particularly in Florida’s demanding climate. Over time, prolonged UV exposure, heat cycles, and seasonal storms gradually weaken asphalt shingles. Even if leaks have not appeared yet, aging materials often lose flexibility, adhesive strength, and wind resistance. For roofs in this age range, replacement becomes less about appearance and more about preventing structural issues. Older shingles are more susceptible to lifting, cracking, and granule loss, which can allow water intrusion during heavy rain events. Upgrading to a modern architectural shingle system restores both the protective barrier and the structural integrity of the roof. This project involved replacing a 28-year-old shingle roof with approximately 51 squares of Owens Corning Duration shingles in Estate Gray. White drip edge was installed along the perimeter, while black boots, vents, and paint provided consistent detailing across roof penetrations.
