A successful roof replacement begins with understanding that the roofing system functions as a complete assembly. Shingles, edge metal, ventilation components, and fastening patterns all work together to protect the structure. Replacing worn materials without addressing system integrity can leave vulnerabilities behind, especially in climates where sun exposure and seasonal storms are routine. In Florida, darker architectural shingles such as Onyx Black offer both visual contrast and reinforced performance when installed properly. Modern shingles include strengthened nailing zones and improved adhesion features designed to withstand wind uplift and heavy rain. Attention to drip edge placement and sealed penetrations ensures water is directed properly off the roof and away from decking and fascia. This project included approximately 18 squares of Owens Corning Duration shingles in Onyx Black. Black drip edge and matching boots, vents, and paint created a cohesive finish across the entire roofline.
