Historic Reroof in Gainesville, FL
The McCreary House in Gainesville, Florida, is a piece of living history, believed to have been built in the 1890s as the home of Henry Hamilton McCreary, publisher of The Gainesville Sun. After narrowly escaping demolition in 1975 and being relocated to its current site, the home has stood for decades with minimal updates to its exterior. The roof, last replaced in 1985, had reached the end of its service life and was showing signs of deterioration. To preserve this historic landmark while giving it the protection it deserves, we completed a full reroof using 30 squares of OC Duration shingles in Onyx Black. This shingle was chosen not only for its timeless look, which matches the character of the home, but also for its performance in Florida’s harsh climate. The black drip edge and matching boots, vents, and paint provided a seamless finish that respects the home’s historic aesthetic. Restoring a historic structure requires attention to detail, especially when updating essential systems like the roof. This reroof ensures the McCreary House is both preserved and fortified for the future, allowing it to stand strong as a Gainesville landmark for years to come. 📍 Gainesville: https://maps.app.goo.gl/QHhf84HaJVJcpeiy7 📍 Ocala: https://maps.app.goo.gl/tnGhv9XdykTLhCWD9 📍 The Villages: https://maps.app.goo.gl/iCUTdb1myp9p4MCc6
