This home is making the switch from a shingle roof that did not hold up the way the homeowner expected. The shingles were installed in 2019 and began showing problems much earlier than they should have. Instead of repeating the same system, the homeowner chose to upgrade to a standing seam metal roof designed for much longer service. Before the metal panels go on, the roof is covered with a high-temperature peel and stick underlayment. This is different from the standard peel and stick many roofs use. High-temp membranes are designed specifically for metal roofing because metal can get much hotter than shingles under direct sun. The upgraded underlayment bonds tightly to the roof deck and holds up better under those higher temperatures. This roof also shows the scale and complexity that comes with standing seam metal. Unlike shingles that come in bundles and repeat across the roof, every metal panel is measured and cut to a specific length before installation begins. This project required 215 custom panels in multiple sizes to fit the different roof sections and slopes. The finished system will be installed using 26-gauge 1" Snap Lock standing seam panels in Gallery Blue, paired with a high-temperature Mid-States Quik-Stick peel and stick base layer.
