Roofers in my area in Gainesville, FL

April 2025

Brehm Roofing & Restoration is currently completing a roof replacement for a homeowner in Gainesville, FL, located near the Oaks Mall. This particular home had gone through multiple reroofs over the years, with the existing roof being more than 15 years old. One of the key challenges we often see on second or third reroofs is the legacy of outdated building practices. In the 1980s and 1990s, it was common for roofing contractors to tear off the roof down to the existing felt and simply install new felt over it—leaving older, deteriorated layers underneath. While that approach was once allowed, it often causes major problems when roofers today are required to go down to the bare decking, as mandated by modern Florida Building Code. In this case, our crew uncovered 22 sheets of water-damaged plywood and over 200 feet of additional wood repairs that needed to be addressed before installing the new roofing system. Today’s codes are more stringent, but they create a stronger and more reliable foundation for the life of the roof. Our team follows all Florida Building Code requirements carefully to ensure that each roof is completed to the highest standard. For this project, the homeowner chose CertainTeed Landmark shingles in Moire Black, a classic architectural shingle that offers dual-layer strength, a dimensional appearance, and excellent wind and algae resistance—making it a solid choice for homes in North Florida's climate.
