Driveway Replacement ON A HILL in Jacksonville, Florida
We completed a full removal and replacement of a damaged, cracked concrete driveway for this residential property in Hidden Hills Country Club located in Jacksonville Florida. Our team handled the entire process, from initial site excavation and utility marking to the final finishing touches. We utilized heavy machinery to remove the old surface, rented roll-off dumpsters from Duval Asphalt, and graded the sub-base. Due to this driveway being located on a steep hill with sandy soils, we installed thickened edge footings measuring 6" deep x 12" wide along the edges of the driveway to mitigate future soil erosion or washout from below the slab. Once form boards are placed and shot in place, our crew pulls stringlines across the driveway every 4'-5' to grade to proper depth. This is key to a uniform cure and finish. In addition to fiber-mesh reinforcement, we also installed 6x6 W1.4xW1.4 welded wire mesh due to the steep pour to further mitigate any hairline cracking. Expansion joints were placed less than 40' on center with Saw Cuts applied in less than 24 hours spaced no more than 12' on center with a cut dept to 25% of slab thickness per American Concrete Institute Standards. We also applied 1/2" void cap to the top of expansion joints during pour to facilitate installation of a limestone-colored self-leveling sealant at all expansion joint locations. The color cures to a very close match to the cured 3000 PSI concrete used. In addition, this added precaution, eliminates any water penetration at expansion joints and mitigates slab washout, future cracking, and settling. The result is a smooth, structural upgrade that significantly improves the home’s functionality and curb appeal.
