Action Exteriors is in the middle of one of its most involved restorations yet, a historic property in Spicewood, and the way this job came about goes back to 2021. That year, Jacob Smola bought his house. Amy was the seller's agent, and Jacob was impressed enough with how she handled the sale that he tracked her down afterward to offer to be her roofer. Amy needed a roof, Action Exteriors took care of it, and the two have been sending each other clients ever since. A few years later, Amy asked Jacob to inspect a property in Spicewood before her clients closed on it. He found hail damage across the shingle roofs, the standing seam metal roofs, and the gutters, along with missing shingles and other issues. The existing CertainTeed Carriage House shingles in Antique Green are a heavy, premium shingle, but they still took a beating. As Jacob kept documenting, the scope kept growing. Once the vines came off the exterior, rot and deterioration showed up underneath, and opening the roof revealed a full second layer of shingles. The home was built in the early 1900s and moved from the Lampasas area to Spicewood in the 1980s, and what started as a roof has become a full exterior restoration. The scope now includes standing seam metal roofing, complete siding replacement, insulation and housewrap, fascia and soffits, exterior paint, door refinishing, gutters, garage doors, glass, stonework, columns and capitals, structural reframing, and a rebuilt exterior staircase. The crew is also restoring an old balcony that had been covered over with a metal roof, turning it back into a usable balcony with a Pli-Dek deck system. There's a deadline, too. The family is turning the property into a wedding venue, and the first wedding there will be their son's this spring. The bride's father is the man who sold Jacob his house in 2021, with Amy representing him.
