Southwestern Serenity: Rethinking the Front Yard
The client approached us with a clear vision: they wanted a front yard that embraced a Southwestern aesthetic, significantly reduced the amount of turf grass, and featured a new, inviting walkway to their front door. The key challenge was to achieve this transformation while ensuring the new design felt naturalistic, low-maintenance, and cohesive with the home's existing style. We transformed the front yard into a captivating, water-wise landscape. Our design centered around a dynamic rock garden, featuring a thoughtful interplay of varying boulders, natural river rock, and permeable gravel. The new front walkway was crafted using a naturalistic flagstone paver approach, seamlessly guiding visitors to the front door. To enhance the Southwestern flare and ensure sustainability, we carefully selected native and well-adapted plants. These plantings were arranged with a sophisticated play on mass and void, creating visual interest and depth while drastically reducing the need for traditional turf maintenance. The result is a striking, eco-friendly front yard that perfectly embodies the client's vision.
