Why Wax Can Cause Problems on Ceramic Tile Floors

October 2026

On this Orange Beach, Alabama project, Cornerstone Hard Surface Restoration removed a failing floor coating from wood-look ceramic tile. The coating had developed uneven sheen and areas of peeling, taking away from the floor’s appearance. Wax and soft acrylic coatings can scratch and scuff easily, become cloudy, and wear unevenly in busy areas. What looks like damaged tile may actually be deterioration in the coating above it. Adding more product can compound the buildup and create an ongoing cycle of recoating and stripping. For this project, we removed the unwanted coating and applied a clear sealer as the appropriate finishing treatment for the floor. If your ceramic tile looks cloudy, scratched or uneven, have the surface evaluated before adding another coating. Cornerstone Hard Surface Restoration provides professional tile and grout cleaning, coating removal and sealing in Orange Beach and throughout Baldwin County.
