40-Gallon Electric Water Heater Replacement in Ybor City, Tampa, FL, Plus a Surprise Water Quality Find An Ybor City homeowner called Elite Trade Services when his old 40-gallon electric water heater stopped keeping up. He was running out of hot water and knew the unit was getting older. Our licensed Tampa plumbers came out to his Ybor City home and inspected the tank. The unit was near the end of its life, so we recommended a full water heater replacement. We removed the old tank, installed a new 40-gallon electric water heater, and brought everything up to current code. That included new supply lines, a new temperature and pressure relief valve, and a full leak and performance check before we left. The homeowner had reliable hot water again the same day. When we drained and removed the old tank, we found heavy sediment and mineral scale built up at the bottom. That’s a common sign of hard water in Ybor City and across the Tampa Bay area. Many Ybor homes are older, and minerals like calcium and magnesium build up inside water heaters and plumbing over the years. That makes the heating elements work harder, raises energy bills, and shortens the life of the tank. We tested the home’s water and confirmed it was very hard. It also had a strong chlorine and chloramine smell, which comes from the way Tampa’s water is disinfected. We walked the homeowner through his options for protecting the new water heater and improving his water: • Whole-home water softener: Cuts down on scale buildup in the water heater, pipes, and fixtures. • Whole-home carbon filtration system: Reduces chlorine and chloramine taste and smell at every faucet and shower. • Reverse osmosis drinking water system: Gives cleaner, better-tasting water for drinking and cooking. We also recommended flushing the water heater every year to help it last longer.
