Backyard Refresh with Slab Installation & Garden Beds
This backyard transformation focused on enhancing function and flow while keeping things simple, organic, and budget-conscious. We began by removing several tree stumps and leveling the surface to install concrete slab stepping stones that now connect the gate to the existing patio. With precision spacing and compacted sand, the new path blends seamlessly with the yard and invites better use of the outdoor space. Along two edges of the property, we designed and built custom raised garden beds — each framed with 4x4 posts, 1x6 sides, and a clean cap edge for a polished look. These beds were tailored to fit snugly along the fence lines, optimizing growing space without compromising lawn or patio access. To support the next stage of planting, we provided soil delivery options and guidance on using Hugelkultur techniques to reduce soil volume and promote long-term bed health. We also shared suggestions for softening the slab-to-lawn transitions for an integrated, finished aesthetic. Even after the project wrapped, we were happy to return to help the client place additional leftover slabs near the deck — a small but thoughtful touch that made a big impact.
