Restoring a landscape begins with understanding how the land functions. This Island View property includes a pond, wetland areas and natural drainage channels surrounded by established vegetation. Our work began with selective invasive species removal while protecting existing native plants and observing how water moves through the site. By reopening drainage pathways and gradually expanding the restoration area, we are helping the landscape recover while learning from the site's hydrology and seasonal conditions. Rather than treating restoration as a one-time cleanup, this project is being approached through ongoing stewardship—removing invasive pressure, supporting existing ecological processes and allowing the long-term restoration strategy to evolve with the land.
