We had the opportunity to design and build a backyard space for a customer who wanted a safe, fun, and low-maintenance area for her son to play. As always, we began with a free consultation to understand her vision and carefully assess the property for any existing or potential issues. Our approach is always to design landscapes that not only look beautiful but are built to last. The goal was simple: create a backyard her son could enjoy while also providing a clean, inviting look for the home. To start, we prepped the space with a dig out and leveled the yard for turf installation. Before laying turf, we installed a commercial-grade weed barrier to keep unwanted grass and weeds from breaking through. For the play area, we chose high-quality turf, which offers several benefits—it's soft and safe for kids, requires no mowing, and stays green year-round. To frame the turf and keep it separated from the surrounding hardscape, we used composite edging. Unlike traditional edging, composite is long-lasting, weather-resistant, and won’t rot, warp, or crack—making it a great investment for durability. Next, we installed a flagstone pathway, setting each stone on concrete to ensure stability and prevent shifting over time. To complete the design, we added shadow rock around the space, creating a beautiful contrast with the green turf while also keeping the area low-maintenance. The end result was a backyard that checks all the boxes: safe for play, visually appealing, durable, and easy to maintain. Now, this family has a space where their son can make memories, and mom can relax without worrying about upkeep. At Hole In One Lawns, we love projects like this—transforming a backyard into a functional and enjoyable space for the whole family.
