We recently completed a project for a customer who wanted to make better use of the space on the side of their home. The project started with a free consultation where we discussed their vision for the space and took measurements to ensure we ordered the correct amount of materials for the job. Previously, there were small wooden steps that extended about six feet from the side entry. These steps were already showing signs of wear, fading, and warping. To begin the transformation, we removed the old wooden steps and began preparing the area for a large Trex deck installation. We cleared the grass and laid down a weed barrier to prevent weeds from growing beneath the deck, which could eventually overtake the space and even grow up into the deck itself. Next, we installed sturdy posts into the ground for support and drilled into the foundation to ensure the deck could safely hold the weight of a group of people. Once the support system was in place, we finished the framing of the deck. With the frame set, we began laying down the Trex decking using spacers to allow for proper drainage, ensuring long-term durability and proper airflow. At the face of the deck, we incorporated a storage door, offering easy access to the space beneath the deck. On the right side of the deck, we built wide steps for added safety and installed pavers at the end to complete the look and functionality. For the front of the deck, we repurposed the existing limestone border and used it to create a new border along the deck’s edge. We planted fresh, drought-tolerant plants and filled the area with our Texas blend rocks to add texture and visual appeal. To finish off the project, we installed modern aluminum railings for safety and a sleek, contemporary finish. Trex decking was the perfect choice for this project because it is incredibly durable, weather-resistant, and low-maintenance. Unlike traditional wood, Trex doesn’t warp, splinter, or require constant staining, meaning our customer will spend less time on upkeep and more time enjoying their new outdoor space. Additionally, Trex is environmentally friendly, made from recycled materials, and it retains its color and finish over time, offering long-term beauty with minimal effort. With the completed deck, this previously unused side yard has been transformed into a versatile space. Now the customer can add outdoor furniture, an outdoor kitchen, a pergola, or host get-togethers. It’s a perfect area to relax, entertain, and enjoy the outdoors year-round.
