Cross Canyons, San Antonio Tx.
When a San Antonio homeowner reached out to Hole in One Lawns, they were frustrated with their front yard—grass just wouldn’t grow, and they were tired of staring at a dry, patchy lawn. We scheduled a free consultation to assess the problem, and right away, we noticed the issue: their beautiful, mature tree was providing a lot of shade—too much for traditional grass to thrive. Understanding their concerns and their desire for something more visually appealing, we got to work on a design that not only solved their grass problem, but also addressed something that’s very important to us: water conservation. With San Antonio currently under Stage 4 drought restrictions, saving water isn’t just a smart choice—it’s a necessary one. At Hole in One Lawns, we care deeply about the environment and helping our community make sustainable choices that still look amazing. We started by removing the struggling grass, treating the area to prevent weed regrowth, and then laying down a durable weed barrier. To replace the grass, we brought in 3/4-inch limestone rock—a clean, bright option that complements the look of the home while significantly reducing water needs, saving the homeowner both time and money in the long run. To maintain functionality, we installed a custom-designed paver pathway that curves with the natural flow of the yard, leading from the front entrance to the backyard. These pavers are set and leveled on concrete, ensuring long-term durability with no shifting or settling over time. We finished off the hardscape with a composite border to keep the limestone neatly in place and prevent any rock movement—another low-maintenance touch our clients appreciate. For the existing flower bed under the tree, we preserved and repurposed the original chop block edging, widening the design for a more dramatic effect and filling the space with shadow rock, adding both texture and contrast. The side of the home posed a similar challenge with another shaded area due to the neighbor's tree. Grass just wasn’t cutting it there either, so we removed what remained and replaced it with a shade-tolerant grass variety that thrives in low-light conditions—perfect for that narrow, tricky space. At Hole in One Lawns, we take pride in truly listening to our customers' visions and bringing them to life with creative, sustainable, and functional landscaping solutions. This project is a great example of how we combine thoughtful design, eco-conscious practices, and long-lasting materials to deliver a yard that not only looks great but works with nature—not against it.
