Front yard xeriscape with curved chop block borders and river rock beds in Henderson Pass, San Antonio, TX. THE CHALLENGE: The front yard had thin, undefined beds under the crape myrtles and shade trees, and the lawn edges ran right into the planting areas, making the yard look unfinished and hard to keep up. WHAT WE DID: Hole In One Lawns laid out sweeping new bed lines, cleared and prepped the planting areas, then hand-set a cream chop block stone border to separate the lawn from the beds and wrap around the multi-trunk trees. The beds were filled with a mix of Texas blend river rock and dark gray shadow rock for contrast, accented with dark shadow rock boulders, and planted with drought-tolerant perennials, ornamental grasses and flowering natives like lantana. THE RESULT: A crisp, water-wise front landscape with year-round texture and color, clean edges that make mowing easy, and far less mulch, watering and weeding than before.
