Front yard xeriscape with white chop block borders, glacier boulders and shadow rock beds in Henderson Pass, San Antonio, TX. THE CHALLENGE: This front yard needed a low-maintenance, water-wise refresh with cleaner bed lines around the mature trees and the foundation, better drainage and stronger curb appeal. WHAT WE DID: Working from a 3D/2D design, our crew prepped and graded the beds, then set about 280 ft of white 4x6 chop block border to separate lawn from beds and ring the trees. Beds were filled with 3/4 inch washed granite and 1-3 inch shadow rock, with 5-8 inch Texas Blend river rock as an accent and drainage strip. Three 24-30 inch glacier boulders anchor the design, and we planted Brakelight red yucca, soft leaf yucca and dianella on a new drip valve and tubing. THE RESULT: A clean, layered front landscape with natural stone texture and year-round structure that needs little water and no mulch refills. Scope: 3D landscape design, xeriscaping, chop block borders, tree rings, rock beds, boulder placement, drought-tolerant planting, drip irrigation.
