Trex composite deck with cedar and aluminum railing in Iron Mountain Ranch, San Antonio, TX. THE CHALLENGE: The old wood deck behind this brick home was worn out, and the homeowners wanted a durable, low-maintenance deck built around their large oak trees, with better drainage underneath. WHAT WE DID: Our crew removed the old deck and built a new treated-lumber substructure, then installed about 800 sq ft of Trex Enhance Naturals decking in Rocky Harbor with Coastal Bluff split and lateral accent boards, hidden fasteners and composite skirting. The deck is shaped around the oak trunks so the trees stay part of the space. About 60 ft of railing uses cedar posts and rails with powder-coated aluminum balusters and a Trex Coastal Bluff handrail. We ran a 35 ft French drain under the deck and added 280 ft of seamless gutters to move roof water away from the home. THE RESULT: A long-lasting, splinter-free deck for dining and entertaining under the oaks, with open views and a dry yard. As a Trex Pro builder, we build Trex decks to the manufacturer's standards. The home's FX landscape and eave lighting is in our other Iron Mountain Ranch showcase. Scope: deck removal, Trex composite deck, deck framing, hidden fasteners, skirting, cedar and aluminum railing, French drain, seamless gutters.
