Modern Hill Country front yard with a Blue Moon chopstone planter, charcoal honed limestone steps and smart eave lighting in The Ranches at Creekside, Boerne, TX. THE CHALLENGE: This new home had a plain builder front yard that did not match its modern stone and brick architecture, with no defined walkway from the sidewalk to the entry and no lighting on the facade. WHAT WE DID: Built from our 3D design, the centerpiece is a raised planter of Blue Moon chopstone in mixed 4x4, 4x6 and 4x8 blocks, about 40 ft on a reinforced concrete footing with mortared joints, planted with a 30-gallon Vitex. We added 25 ft of matching 4x6 chopstone border, set eleven 2 x 4 ft charcoal honed limestone step pads from the sidewalk to the front door, and filled the beds and spaces between pads with 3/8 inch crushed limestone over commercial weed barrier. New plantings include Red Yucca, Boxwood, Lavender, Purple Society Garlic and Mexican Bush Sage, and two irrigation valves were relocated on the reclaimed water system. On the house we installed 17 smart recessed eave lights with app control and color and white settings, plus a new garage light fixture.
