Dry Creek Drainage, Flagstone & Trex Walkway | Vista Del Norte, San Antonio TX
June 2026
Front and side yard landscape with a dry creek drainage bed, Oklahoma blue flagstone walkway and Trex composite walkway in Vista Del Norte, San Antonio, TX. THE CHALLENGE: The front of this stone home was overgrown with jasmine, water needed a path away from the house, and the side yard needed a durable walkway and fence. WHAT WE DID: We cleared the overgrowth and rough-graded, then set about 135 ft of chopped limestone border on a continuous concrete footing. Ten yards of Laredo river rock over weed barrier became a dry creek drainage feature, with 1-2 inch shadow rock in the beds. An Oklahoma Blue Select flagstone walkway now runs from the sidewalk to the driveway on a concrete base, and the existing limestone retaining wall was pressure washed and restored. A new drip zone with a master valve feeds the plantings: Turk's Cap, Liriope, Cast Iron Plant, flax lily, Mexican Bush Sage, Dwarf Wax Myrtle, Firepower Nandina, Viburnum, Pink Muhly, Silver Ponyfoot, Blackfoot Daisy, Blue Mist Flower, Soft Leaf Yucca and milkweed. Along the side we built a 3 x 16 ft Trex walkway in Clamshell Gray to the gate and a 26 ft cedar-framed hog panel fence with a 4-ft gate. THE RESULT: A water-wise landscape that handles runoff, shows off the stone architecture and gives the family easy, low-maintenance access around the home. The lighting for this home is in our other Vista Del Norte showcase. Scope: dry creek drainage, Laredo river rock, shadow rock, chopped limestone border, Oklahoma flagstone walkway, drip irrigation, drought-tolerant planting, Trex composite walkway, cedar hog panel fence, wall restoration.
