We recently completed a transformative project for a customer who was struggling with a mud pit on the side entry of their home. The issue was caused by a large tree that cast too much shade over the area, preventing grass from growing and turning the space into a soggy, muddy mess. During our free consultation, we offered a range of solutions that would address these concerns, while also considering the need for a low-maintenance, functional, and visually appealing design. Our goal was to create a safe, leveled surface that would eliminate the mud and conserve water. To start, we removed all the grass from the area, giving us a clean slate. Then, we installed a weed barrier to ensure no unwanted vegetation would pop up in the future. With the foundation prepared, we laid down Belgard pavers, ensuring they were leveled and set on concrete to prevent shifting over time, even with the wear of foot traffic from the gate to the patio. After the pavers were installed, we filled the gaps with crushed limestone, which provided a clean and durable finish. To keep everything in place and maintain the look, we sealed the entire surface, ensuring that rocks wouldn’t spill onto the pavers. This not only enhanced the visual appeal of the design but also kept maintenance low. The use of pavers offers numerous benefits: They provide a solid, durable surface that resists shifting, even in areas with heavy traffic or variable weather. Their design flexibility allows us to create patterns and textures that complement the surrounding environment. Additionally, pavers are permeable, allowing water to drain naturally, which helps with water conservation and reduces runoff. They also help prevent erosion, making them ideal for areas like this one, which had previously been a mud pit. With the added benefit of being low maintenance, pavers are the perfect solution for creating a functional and beautiful side entry that will last for years to come.
