Wortham Oaks, San Antonio Tx.
We recently had the pleasure of working with one of our returning clients on a new project focused on enhancing their front yard. Previously, we had transformed their backyard, cleaned up the side of their home, and removed a massive tree from the front yard that was taking up valuable space. In many neighborhoods, builders are required to plant the same number of trees they remove — often resulting in too many trees packed into small areas. While well-intentioned, this can lead to long-term issues like root damage, over-shading, and maintenance headaches. In this case, removing one of the oversized trees significantly opened up the yard and set the stage for a better use of space. This time around, the homeowner wanted to refresh their front yard with new borders, fix the side yard where grass wasn’t surviving, and extend the driveway to create more usable space. We started with a free consultation, listening closely to their ideas and helping shape the vision for a low-maintenance, functional, and visually appealing design. We began by demoing and prepping the area, then laid down a commercial-grade weed barrier to ensure long-lasting results. In the driveway and front border areas, we installed a compacted base for strength, followed by leveling sand, and finished it off with Belgard Dimension 12 pavers accented with a 4x8 Holland border. Why Pavers Instead of Concrete? Pavers offer flexibility, durability, and easier maintenance compared to concrete. Unlike poured concrete, pavers can shift slightly without cracking, which makes them ideal for areas prone to ground movement. If a repair is ever needed, individual pavers can be replaced without tearing out large sections—saving time and money. The side of the house had persistent issues with dead grass due to lack of sunlight, caused by a neighboring two-story home. To solve this, we opted for a Laredo decorative rock installation bordered with chop stone set in concrete and mortared in. This created a clean, modern look that's easy to maintain and won't suffer from the same issues as grass. The border flowed seamlessly into the front yard and flower bed area, creating a cohesive look. We tied everything together with a chop stone ring border around the remaining front tree—matching the one we had previously removed, which had freed up significant yard space. To finish off the space, we added rich black mulch throughout the flower beds, enhancing contrast and helping retain moisture. We’re always honored when past clients invite us back for new projects. It’s a testament to the quality of service and attention to detail we bring to every job. Whether it’s your first project or your third with us, we treat every home like it’s our own—focusing on thoughtful design, reliable workmanship, and long-term results.
