We recently visited a home in Clermont to replace the piping for the dryer vent. We recommended rerouting the existing dryer vent to correct multiple NFPA and ICC code violations and to improve overall safety and airflow. Existing Issues • Non‑compliant transition from 4" round duct to a 10x4 boxed chase. • Total duct length exceeding allowable limits. • Excessive elbows increasing equivalent length. • System not serviceable for proper cleaning, creating a fire hazard. • Oversized chase and extended run reducing airflow and increasing lint accumulation. Proposed Reroute • Vent was designed to exit the laundry room side wall and run along the staircase wall to the exterior. • New ducting specified as 4" 28‑gauge galvanized rigid metal pipe with hangers every 4 feet. • Layout limited to two 45° elbows and one 90° elbow. • Equivalent length reduced to approximately 25 feet, meeting code requirements. Exterior Termination • New metal termination hood installed more than 12" above grade. • Termination included a backdraft damper and no screen, in accordance with code. Summary The reroute addressed all code violations, improved airflow, reduced fire risk, and ensured the dryer vent system is fully serviceable and compliant.
