Shavano Park Galley Kitchen Remodel | Open Concept Transformation
This San Antonio kitchen remodel in Shavano Park completely transformed a dark enclosed galley kitchen into a bright open-concept space designed for both entertaining and everyday functionality. The original kitchen featured dated wood cabinetry, laminate countertops, enclosed upper cabinets above the peninsula, and limited natural light that made the narrow layout feel closed off from the surrounding living areas. One of the primary goals of the remodel was to visually open the kitchen while maximizing storage and improving organization. Legacy Bath & Kitchen removed the heavy overhead cabinetry above the peninsula to create clear sightlines into the living room and fully showcase the home’s dramatic vaulted ceilings and exposed beams. This single design change dramatically changed the feel of the entire home, making the kitchen feel significantly larger, brighter, and more connected. The remodel included custom olive green cabinetry paired with warm quartz countertops, updated flooring, and a geometric backsplash that adds texture and subtle visual interest throughout the space. Stainless steel appliances and modern fixtures helped modernize the kitchen while maintaining warmth and character that complement the original architecture of the home. Custom storage solutions were incorporated throughout the kitchen, including deep drawer storage for cookware and utensils, expanded pantry cabinetry, and improved organization around the cooking and prep zones. The redesigned peninsula also provides additional workspace and casual seating while helping define the open-concept layout. The finished kitchen balances warmth, functionality, and modern style while preserving the unique architectural character of the home’s vaulted ceilings and exposed beams.
