Front Window Dry Rot Repair and Siding Restoration

This West Sacramento exterior repair project began after significant dry rot was discovered beneath a front living room window. Prior work on the home had not fully addressed the underlying moisture intrusion and structural deterioration, allowing damage to continue beneath the siding and around the window framing. Originally, the repair plan anticipated complete removal and reinstallation of the existing window in order to access and repair the damaged framing beneath it. However, after careful demolition and evaluation on-site, the McCray & Sons Home Services team was able to preserve the existing window and complete the structural repairs without removing it. Although this approach required additional labor and more detailed finish work, it helped minimize disruption while protecting a newer window that was still in good condition. The project included removal of damaged T1-11 siding surrounding the window area, extraction of visibly deteriorated framing materials beneath the window opening, and replacement of compromised structural components. The repaired area was then properly flashed, sealed, and weatherproofed to help prevent future moisture intrusion. New siding was installed to closely match the existing profile, and custom exterior trim details were rebuilt around the window for a clean finished appearance. The exterior was then primed and painted to blend the repair area into the surrounding façade as seamlessly as possible. One of the biggest goals of this project was preserving the appearance of the home while correcting the hidden structural damage underneath. The final result restored both the integrity and curb appeal of the front elevation while avoiding a full window removal that many contractors would have considered unavoidable.
