A high-end roofing project where almost every part of the system needed rethinking. We started with a full tear-off of the house and pool cabana, removed 25 sheets of moisture-compromised plywood, and rebuilt the deck before laying down the full Owens Corning system — Vycor ice and water barrier on all eaves, valleys and penetrations, Deck Defense synthetic underlayment, and TruDefinition Duration shingles in Estate Gray, all installed to Platinum Preferred Warranty standards. The attic was the real challenge: with HVAC equipment running inside it, the space behaves more like a mechanical room than an attic, and passive ventilation alone wasn't keeping up. We installed an Owens Corning VentSure solar-powered exhaust fan, sealed off the existing ridge vent to prevent airflow short-circuiting, balanced the intake with 40 soffit baffles, and added rigid foam insulation under the deck above the HVAC zone to cut heat transfer and prevent localized ice formation. On the metal side, we installed open metal valleys and two standing seam sections — one running up the sidewall under the eave near the screen porch, the other over the front entry — fully integrated with concealed clips, high-temperature ice and water shield, and proper thermal-movement detailing. A fully adhered Mule-Hide EPDM system handles the low-pitch valley area, and we replaced a Velux M04 skylight with solar shade and rebuilt a roof-to-wall siding transition where water had been getting behind the wall. The result: lifetime materials warranty, 130 mph wind coverage, a fully active attic thermal system, and architectural metal details engineered to outlast everything around them.
