"When you find yourself deep in the woods, sometimes there's no way out but through." That's how it felt with these bees. They were very defensive and their comb had collapsed (either from heat or from being abandoned in seasons past). It was like cutting thick cake just to get the old comb out of the way to access the newer comb the colony built above it.
