Commercial Kitchen Floor Remodel at Elks, Winchester, VA

At Tailored Concrete Coatings, we had the pleasure of partnering with Kee Construction to complete a commercial kitchen floor remodel at the Elks Lodge in Winchester, VA. This project involved installing a high-performance epoxy flake floor system with a 6-inch Easy Cove to enhance both functionality and aesthetic appeal in a high-traffic kitchen environment. Scope of Work: Site Preparation & Protective Measures: Prior to starting the project, we carefully taped off and protected all surrounding areas, including doorways and any surfaces the customer wished to remain free of dust or debris. Plastic sheeting was used to shield these areas from material overspray and contamination, ensuring a clean work environment. Concrete Surface Preparation & Repair: The existing concrete surface required extensive preparation. Our team removed residual adhesive from previous flooring and addressed numerous cracks and surface pitting. We filled and leveled these imperfections to create a smooth, stable base for the new coating system. Additionally, flexible joint filler was applied to all expansion joints to prevent future movement and ensure long-term durability. Easy Cove Installation: For enhanced functionality and a clean finish, we installed a 6-inch Easy Cove along the perimeter of the kitchen. The epoxy was extended up the cove, forming a seamless bond between the floor and wall. This step not only provided an aesthetic, professional look but also a waterproof barrier, helping to protect against moisture damage and simplifying cleaning. Epoxy System Application: After thorough surface preparation and cleaning, we applied a base coat of epoxy from The Concrete Protector. While the base coat was still wet, we broadcasted the decorative flakes directly into the epoxy, ensuring a strong bond and even coverage across the surface. Once the flakes set, we returned to collect any excess, scrape the surface smooth, and vacuum the area for a clean finish. Topcoat & Final Finish: To complete the floor system, we applied a durable Poly 90 topcoat, designed for high-performance environments like commercial kitchens. This polyaspartic coating provides exceptional resistance to stains, moisture, and wear, ensuring the floor remains easy to maintain and long-lasting under demanding conditions. Project Details: Timeframe: Although a typical commercial kitchen remodel would take around 4 days to complete, we adjusted the timeline to work around other contractors on-site. By breaking the project into manageable phases, we maintained a smooth workflow and ensured minimal disruption to the overall project schedule. End Result: The finished floor system is not only visually appealing but also highly functional, providing a durable, waterproof, and easy-to-clean surface ideal for a busy commercial kitchen. The Elks Lodge now has a long-lasting floor that meets the high demands of their kitchen operations.
