For this new construction home, we installed Pella Impervia fiberglass windows throughout the entire house. Fiberglass holds up to Iowa's temperature swings without warping or going brittle, so it suits a home built to last. Every window was set by its nailing flange using a full water-management install: Sill flashing goes in below each opening before the window is set. We run a bead of sealant behind the nailing flange and press the flange tight to the sheathing. Each window is set square, level, and plumb. Z-flashing above the window directs water out and away. 4-inch rubberized flashing tape seals the nailing flange on all sides. Low-expansion spray foam fills the gap around the frame, making the opening airtight and watertight. On the interior, we built and installed custom farmhouse-style jambs and casing. On the exterior, we finished each window with AZEK trim, which won't rot and holds paint. As a Pella Certified Installer, we install every window to this standard.
