Depressurizing Denny's Basement Wall
Most folks think that if a foundation wall is adjacent to a garage, groundwater can't affect it. Sometimes that's true, sometimes it's not, and other times there are alternate considerations. In Denny's case, the garage was slightly sloped toward the foundation. During winter months, his car would bring ice and snow and salts into the garage. When it melted, it brought salty water to the foundation and began to seriously erode the concrete in the block. We skim-coated the worst sections, depressurized the wall from the inside and installed our drainage board up to grade, or ground level, feeding it into his existing drainage system. The wall can now drain water effectively, and the pressure is fully relieved.
