Passive Waterproofing in Apple Valley
Andrea’s remodel was well underway. Insulation in, sheetrock up, the new bathroom fully installed. Then heavy rains rolled in—and with them, a small but consistent pool of water, maybe a cup each time. Suddenly the question became: Where do we go from here? Some contractors told them to tear everything out and install a full drain tile system with a new sump pump. Others suggested redoing the drain tile only in the problem area… which would have meant ripping apart that brand-new bathroom. That’s when we stepped in and focused on making sense of the situation—not starting from scratch. We could see they were deep into the project, so we approached it with thoughtful, creative problem-solving. Here’s what we did: Instead of a whole-basement overhaul, we targeted the actual problem zone. We installed a new passive sump basin—perforated for drainage, no pump needed because the water volume was so minimal. Then we rerouted the drain tile on both sides of the new basin so everything flowed downhill at a controlled, steep angle. The water now goes exactly where it should. And the best part? We only had to open up about ten feet of sheetrock and studs to make it happen. Now Andrea can finally move forward with flooring and keep the remodel on track—without a full demolition.
