Front Yard Ecological Conversion – A West Coast-Inspired Low-Maintenance Oasis
This project reimagined a traditional, high-maintenance front lawn into a climate-resilient, ecologically sensitive landscape that reflects the natural beauty of the West Coast. We removed the existing turf and water-intensive plantings, replacing them with a thoughtful combination of river rock, driftwood accents, and drought-tolerant native and adaptive species. The new design not only drastically reduces irrigation needs but also improves soil health, increases biodiversity, and supports pollinators and beneficial insects. Layered planting and organic mulches help retain moisture and suppress weeds, ensuring the landscape remains vibrant with minimal intervention. The result is a naturalistic, low-maintenance front yard that harmonizes with the local environment and serves as a living example of sustainable landscaping practices.
