Beacon/Fishkill, NY — Whole-Home Energy Retrofit with Carrier Multiport Heat Pump
This home was gutted to the masonry, giving us a clean slate to rebuild the envelope and mechanical systems properly. We installed spray foam insulation in the walls and ceilings and insulated the basement to tighten the structure, reduce infiltration, and improve overall energy performance. The homeowners wanted to save energy, eliminate their oil furnace, and replace an aging ducted system from the 1950s. We designed a Carrier multiport heat pump system to meet the full heating and cooling load efficiently and quietly. Comfort and IAQ upgrades included: Ducted heat pump distribution for the main living areas Mini-split head in the basement for zone control Whole-home dehumidifier for moisture management Aprilaire media filter for cleaner, healthier indoor air Ecobee smart thermostat for scheduling and remote control During construction we also discovered a bathroom exhaust fan that had been installed without a vent. To prevent moisture buildup, odor recirculation, and potential mold issues, we installed a proper exterior vent and completed the ducting. By combining modern heat pump technology with a tight thermal envelope, this retrofit delivers lower operating costs, balanced comfort, better ventilation, and dramatically improved indoor air quality—without fossil fuels. Another successful deep-energy upgrade in the Beacon/Fishkill area.
