Croton on Hudson, NY — Oil Furnace Removal, Duct Retrofit & Heat Pump Upgrade
This 125-year-old home had a smoking oil furnace in the basement, undersized/dirty ductwork, and an oversized second-floor AC. We removed the old furnace, replaced the first-floor ducts, and modified the second-floor ducts for a second air handler, improving comfort, zoning, and airflow. The old filter was installed incorrectly, so debris bypassed filtration and packed the A-coil with lint, dust, and biological growth—causing repeated limit switch trips that were never properly diagnosed. We installed: Carrier cold-climate heat pumps with separate air handlers Ecobee smart thermostats Aprilaire ERV for balanced ventilation Aprilaire media filtration The homeowner had already dense-pack insulated the walls and spray-foamed the attic. We performed a blower door test, found remaining leakage paths, and sealed them to meet NYSERDA EmPower standards. Our commissioning process verified static pressure, airflow, and system performance so the homeowner can see it’s operating within spec. Oil eliminated, ventilation improved, airflow issues solved, and clean, stable comfort delivered in a historic structure.
