Rhinebeck, NY — Heat Pump Integration with Existing Oil Boiler, Zoning & Remote Monitoring
This 1980s home originally relied on an oil boiler with five heating zones and several through-the-wall AC units for cooling. The homeowners wanted quieter, cleaner, more efficient comfort and to reduce oil usage while maintaining the zoning flexibility they were used to. We installed a combination of: Ducted heat pumps for the main living areas Ductless mini-split heads for targeted room-by-room control Heat pump water heater to eliminate oil-fired domestic hot water Aprilaire media filters for improved indoor air quality We integrated the heat pump controls with the existing oil boiler to provide backup heat on the coldest days and maximize efficiency during milder weather. Two ducted air handlers were installed on the first floor for balanced airflow, and we zoned the upstairs to separate the primary suite from the rest of the second floor, mirroring the original boiler zoning for consistent comfort. Additional upgrades included: A mini-split head in the basement bonus room Ecobee smart thermostats with remote monitoring so the homeowner can check temperatures and make adjustments from anywhere — ideal for a second home Throughout the project, we used CompanyCam to document progress in real time and created a secure photo portal so the homeowner could see updates remotely as work was completed. The result is a quieter, more efficient hybrid system that dramatically reduces oil consumption, replaces noisy through-the-wall units, improves zoning accuracy, and gives the homeowner full remote visibility and control. Another successful hybrid heat pump modernization in Rhinebeck.
