This homeowner was referred to Zenith Roofing Services through Owens Corning as a Preferred Contractor while planning a complete roof replacement. During the design process, the homeowner specifically requested a modified bitumen roofing system for the home's low-slope areas to ensure they received the proper roofing system for every section of the roof. Before installation, we found the existing wood plank roof decking had gaps greater than 1/4 inch. To provide a solid foundation and comply with manufacturer installation requirements, we installed CDX plywood sheathing over the existing decking before installing the new roofing system. The main roof was completed with Owens Corning Duration Cool® Mountainside architectural shingles, providing a durable roofing system designed for the home's steep-slope roof sections. For the garage roof and dead valley, where architectural shingles are not recommended due to the lower roof pitch, we installed a Johns Manville two-layer torch-applied modified bitumen roofing system. Using the appropriate roofing system for each roof section helps provide reliable long-term waterproofing where drainage conditions are different. As part of the project, we also waterproofed the existing solar stanchions to help protect one of the roof's most common leak-prone areas and integrate the solar attachments into the new roofing system. Every home presents different challenges, and this project is a great example of how combining the right materials with the right installation methods creates a complete roofing system designed specifically for the home's layout.
