Every roofing system has unique requirements, especially when a home combines sloped and flat roof sections. Asphalt shingles are designed to shed water quickly on pitched roofs, while flat roofs require a waterproof membrane that prevents standing water from penetrating the structure. Installing the correct material in the right location is essential for maximizing the roof's lifespan and minimizing future maintenance. Ohio's changing weather makes this even more important. Snow, heavy rain, freeze-thaw cycles, and summer heat can accelerate wear on improperly installed roofing systems. Flat roofs benefit from ISO insulation boards that improve drainage, increase energy efficiency, and provide a stable surface for the rubber membrane. Proper edge details and flashing ensure both roof types perform together as one complete weather-resistant system. This project included replacing an 18-square shingle roof using SlateStone Grey architectural shingles with white drip edge, along with replacing both the top and bottom flat rubber roof sections. The flat roof system features new rubber membrane, ISO boards, and new installation hardware to provide dependable waterproof protection.
