This full main floor remodel was a joy from start to finish, and so was getting to know the family behind it. They are genuinely kind, caring people who look out for everyone around them, and it is easy to see why their home is always full. It is a gathering spot for the adults and a hub for the neighborhood kids too, because making people feel welcomed and cared for is at the heart of who they are. Our goal was a space that could hold all of it, from everyday life to big get togethers to an open door for the whole block. We started with a full design plan and careful project coordination, then protected the home and took the kitchen back to the studs. That meant removing the old cabinetry, countertops, sink, appliances, and vent hood, opening up wall framing, pulling an old furnace and capping the line, and reworking the layout so the whole floor lives better, including framing out a brand new pantry. The new kitchen is built around custom wood grain cabinetry with smart, hardworking storage. We carried it all the way to the ceiling with custom fillers for a high end, finished look, added a generous new pantry cabinet, and mixed in custom floating shelves for warmth and display. At the center sits a large island with clever hidden storage, dressed up with clean matte black bar pulls. On top we installed durable quartz countertops in a soft, veined pattern with an eased edge, paired with a deep undermount sink in a warm truffle finish and a crisp white glossy subway tile backsplash. At the sink we added a touch activated pull down faucet and a separate filtered cold water dispenser tap in matte black, and swapped out the emergency water shut off while we had the wall open. To make the space work as hard as the family does, we reconfigured the kitchen around the larger island, set a new gas range, and installed a professional grade range hood ducted to the exterior, along with the refrigerator, dishwasher, and a microwave tucked neatly into the island base. A pop up island outlet keeps the counters clear until it is needed. Lighting is where the space really comes alive at night. We layered in recessed lighting on dimmers, warm under cabinet lighting, and a soft toe kick glow, each on its own control so the family can set the exact mood they want. The whole home runs on a smart lighting system with app and remote control, dimmers, an occupancy sensor, and a new ceiling fan on smart speed control. New luxury vinyl plank flooring runs throughout for a clean, cohesive feel, and we replaced a window with a new fixed pane unit for better light and efficiency before patching every wall and refreshing the paint on walls, trim, baseboards, and doors. In the living room we turned the fireplace into a true media wall and the anchor of the whole gathering space. We removed the old stone and rebuilt it floor to ceiling in natural stacked stone veneer, built a custom solid wood mantel with hidden storage, and set a sleek linear electric insert into new framing, then mounted the TV above so movie nights are ready to go. The result is a warm, open, endlessly usable main floor that finally fits the people who live in it. Whether they are cooking a big meal, hosting friends, or opening the door to a houseful of neighborhood kids, this space was made for taking care of the people they love.
